The Role

The main responsibility of the Area Lead is to care for the people & engagement function of our growing team in Ukraine. Alight’s Ukraine-based operation is responding to displacement caused by the invasion of Ukraine. The program will support displaced people and responding organizations to do the doable, guide newly displaced, and create safe havens for safety and healing.

Job Summary: 

As an Area Lead at Alight, you embody the essence of a proactive field supervisor and are instrumental in steering our mission forward within your assigned region. Your mandate includes the meticulous oversight of project execution, astute management of financial resources, and fostering synergistic collaborations with fellow humanitarians. In your role, you catalyse both the strategic and support aspects of our operations, orchestrating the efforts of a team of committed Guides and auxiliary personnel to actualize meaningful humanitarian impact.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Alight’s projects within the area, ensuring they align with our strategic objectives and customer-centric ethos.
    • Manage and monitor project budgets, ensuring efficient allocation and utilization of resources.
    • Foster strong relationships with other humanitarian actors, local authorities, and community leaders to ensure coordinated efforts and maximize impact.
    • Champion the wellbeing of staff, providing support and promoting a healthy work-life balance.
    • Lead the team in both programmatic and support functions, ensuring high performance and adherence to Alight’s standards of excellence.
    • Develop and implement strategies for capacity building among team members to enhance their skills and effectiveness in the field.
    • Project reporting, providing regular updates and insights on project progress and challenges.
  • Facilitate a culture of continuous learning and improvement, encouraging feedback and innovation within the team.
  • Represent Alight in regional forums, advocating for the needs of the communities we serve and the work of our organisation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in humanitarian or development projects, with demonstrated expertise in project and budget management.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations, making sound decisions and solving problems swiftly.
  • Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in Ukrainian and English.
  • Experience in coordination with other humanitarian or development organizations.
  • Knowledgeable in safety and security protocols for humanitarian operations.
  • Ability to travel frequently within the area of responsibility and occasionally to the head office or other locations as required.
