Position Title: Project Assistant (Prevention)

Duty Station: Kyiv, Ukraine

Classification: General Service Staff, Grade G4 

Type of Appointment: Special Short-Term, Six months with possibility of extension

Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the National Protection Officer, and with the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist (Prevention), the incumbent will be responsible for a range of tasks that help to implement the Protection Programme’s prevention portfolio as well as assisting with conducting other protection activities in Ukraine. 

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Provide support to Protection Programme in management of projects, including monitoring of activities and drafting inputs for projects reporting and development.
  2. Assist the Programme Specialist (Prevention) with implementing of outreach activities to reduce the risk of human trafficking, gender-based violence (GBV), exploitation, abuse and other forms of harm. Such activities may be national, regional, or local/community, necessitating coordination with representatives of government, civil society, and other relevant stakeholders and dissemination of awareness raising content.
  3. Support Protection Programme with assisting coordination of the National Toll-Free Counter-Trafficking and Migrant Advice Hotline, including communication with the NGOs and creation of information products that reflect hotline data and trends.
  4. Participate in relevant meetings and events, and collaborating with IOM staff to reduce the risk of GBV in IOM operations and mainstream efforts.
  5. Contribute to the Protection Programme’s efforts to monitor, and evaluate prevention activities at specific locations/oblasts, drafting input for reporting, project development, and strategy.
  6. Provide support with organization of prevention activities, including provision of logistical and administrative support for trainings, workshops, conferences, steering committee meetings, press conferences, seminars, roundtables and other events.
  7. Assist with drafting prevention-related content for the Protection Programme on a range of protection issues, in assigned geographical locations to contribute to donor reports, other visibility materials as well as knowledge products.
  8. Undertake duty travel based on programme needs.
  9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • High School degree/certificate with four years of professional work experience;

Or

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Science, Education, Law and International Relations or related field from an accredited academic institution with at least two years of relevant work experience.

Experience

  • Experience with outreach and communication activities.
  • Experience the thematic area of countering human trafficking, exploitation, and gender-based violence, and especially the prevention/ awareness raising pillar.
  • Experience in liaison and cooperation with governmental authorities, UN partners and NGOs, as well as other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exposure to emergency responses and work related to internal displacement.
  • Previous work experience in IOM or a UN agency is preferable.

Skills

  • Ability to draft content related to awareness raising/ risk mitigation, on a range of topics.
  • Ability to learn quickly new thematic areas and workstreams related to the protection work of IOM in a variety of contexts.
  • Strong facilitation and public speaking skills.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, especially with graphic design software and social media tools.

Languages

For all applicants, fluency in English and Ukrainian is required (oral and written).
