Communications/PR Specialist (Kyiv)

The Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) is a German aid and welfare organization. ASB is active in the fields of social protection, rescue services and social welfare services. ASB’s Foreign Aid Department provides both direct emergency relief to people hit by man-made or natural disasters and longer-term rehabilitation measures designed to promote recovery and to rapidly help restore the livelihood of refugees, internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups. The ASB Foreign Aid Department is represented with the country offices in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Greece, Haiti, Indonesia, Iraq, Kosovo, Nicaragua, Niger, Philippines, Serbia and Ukraine. 

Since the beginning of conflict in Eastern Ukraine in 2014, ASB has been implementing humanitarian interventions in the country in cooperation with its local partner, Samaritan Union of Ukraine (SSU). In 2016, ASB opened a representative office in Ukraine to coordinate the relief operations in the country. Currently ASB Country Office in Ukraine supports conflict-affected populations in the areas along the ‘contact line’ in Eastern Ukraine (government-controlled areas of Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts) with multisectoral humanitarian assistance.

ASB Country Office in Ukraine is looking for an experienced Public Relations Specialist, who will be responsible for communications at the Country Office level. S/he will be based in Kyiv, with regular trips to the project area. 

Duration: 12 months (extension foreseen depending on performance)

Start: 14 July 2021

Key responsibilities include:

• develop and implement communications plan for ASB Country Office in Ukraine
• establish and maintain contacts with different media (e.g. online, radio, TV)
• create user-friendly contents (visual and text) for ASB website and social media 
• conduct information campaigns
• prepare press-releases, articles and other communications materials
• develop branded materials in line with ASB’s and Donor’s visibility guidelines 
• organize online and offline events
• maintain ASB photo archive
• perform other duties as requested 

Key Requirements

Education

• University Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field

Experience

• Minimum two years of experience in communications, preferably in an international humanitarian NGO
• Experience in managing organization’s website and social media 
• Experience in conducting information campaigns
• Experience in project management and conducting advocacy campaigns will be an asset

Knowledge and skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills (Ukrainian, English and Russian)
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Excellent knowledge of graphic design (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
• Understanding of SMM and SEO principles
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with different target groups
• Strong analytical skills
• Understanding of humanitarian principles (Core Humanitarian Standards, Sphere Minimum Standards, etc.)
