Assistant, Road Safety

The Logistics Department is dedicated to providing technical support to our Customers (Programs & other support Department) to deliver goods & services for our humanitarian activities on the ground.

Under the management of the Fleet/Logistics Officer and in close collaboration with the Security Department, the Driver/ road safety controller needs to consider the hazards employees might encounter when they’re driving for work and explain measures and controls that will eliminate exposure to those hazards or minimize the risks.

Main Responsibilities

Road safety

  • Leading by example, consistently demonstrating safe driving behaviors.
  • Taking an active role in advocating and leading initiatives for Road Safety Risk Assessment and mitigation measures, making sure resources are available to support road safety goals.
  • Talking with employees about road safety, encouraging their participation in road safety planning, and ensuring they receive the training necessary to develop strong driving competencies.
  • Ensuring work assignments and expectations are aligned with safe driving policies/procedures.
  • Supporting employees to know and follow safe driving rules.
  • Investigating any traffic accidents relating to the IMC vehicles and drawing up the reports according to legislative requirements. 
  • Driving incident response from discovery to resolution.
  • Acting as a key point of contact and providing guidance to response team partners.
  • Communicating incidents and crisis events.
  • When not actively responding to active incidents, helping maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), contact lists, conducting incident response training/exercises, and more.

Driving

  • Safely transport employees to various destinations in the country. Take staff to various departments and branches of the company and help them during the elimination of emergency situations.
  • Responsible for all vehicle loads related to emergency response situations.
  • Coordinates with the logistics team and staff regarding items that must be sent for events.
  • Communicates with the logistics officer on issues related to operational support of vehicles, including daily entries in vehicle logs, and provides cleaning and refueling of vehicles.
  • It is ensured that the logbooks are signed by the relevant passenger and properly filled out.
  • If necessary, performs minor mechanical repairs of the car.
  • Report any vehicle damage to the Sr. Logistics Officer.
  • Report any security concerns to IMC personnel or transport means immediately.
  • Report to the Sr. Logistics Officer, Security Manager, and Safety Officer immediately after any accident.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Logistics Specialist and Logistics Coordinators.
  • Referring to the IMC vehicle policy for more information, drivers should read and sign the IMC vehicle policy upon joining the organization.

REPORTING 

  • This individual shall manage and coordinate the response to on-road incidents that may impact vehicles or operations. The role will work cross-functionally to ensure the many aspects of the response process are completed and incidents are communicated to the appropriate parties.

 Minimum Requirements

•     Effective partnership and working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethical environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity

•     Minimum of 3 years of driving experience

•     Be at least 18 of age and possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 2 years.

•     Should hold a full clean Ukrainian driving license

•     Have no medical condition that precludes the safe operation of an IMC vehicle.

•     Should be able to complete the Logbook and vehicle checklist.

•     Hold a clean judicial record.

•     Adhere to Ukrainian driving laws.

•             Aware of all car tool items that should be available in the car (first aid kit, jumper cables, fire extinguisher, spare tire, jack, tool kit,

etc.), and ensure they are in full working order. Drivers must know the location of these items.

•     Be able to Report any safety issues with vehicles to the Logistics Transport Officer and Logistics Coordinator immediately.

•             Able to perform minor mechanical repairs on vehicles as required.

Experience

Minimum 2 years of experience in the fleet or logistics field. At least 1-2 years of experience in Logistics.
