About the job 

The ICRC Information Management recruits an Interpreter/Translator to be based in its Kyiv office. In close cooperation with the team members and line managers, the Interpreter/Translator helps the ICRC communicate clearly and consistently by providing translation/interpretation services from Ukrainian and Russian into English and vice versa and editing services in specified languages.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

• Translate from Ukrainian and Russian into English and vice versa and edit in specified languages a wide range of ICRC texts, within agreed deadlines, ensuring high quality and appropriate terminology 
• Advising colleagues from other parts of the organization on linguistic issues
• Get involved in ad hoc or ongoing projects (e.g., terminology)
• Use and suggest updates to terminology tools
• Proactively collaborate with external translators when volumes require extra resources
• Advise on sensitivities regarding the use of national languages in the delegations

About you

To be successful as an Interpreter/Translator in the Information Management Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:   

• Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
• University degree in translation or professional language skills  
• 3–5 years of experience in translation or editing (preferably in an international organization)
• Editing experience and knowledge of international law or related fields is an asset
• Excellent skills (oral and written) in Ukrainian and Russian
• Advanced knowledge of English
• Computer literate, knowledge of CAT tools would be an asset
• Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
• Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
• Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
• Confidence in managing projects and staff
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
• Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
