Medici per i Diritti Umani – MEDU (Doctors for Human Rights – Italy) is a democratic, non-profit organization that operates independently of political, trade union, religious, and ethnic affiliations.

Role: Psychologist

Place of work:  Chernivtsi and Chernivtsi Oblast

Conditions: 6-month Full-Time continuous collaboration agreement with possibility of extension up to 15 months.

Salary: €1,800

Start date: March/April 2024

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES

In collaboration with the psychosocial operators and the clinical coordinator, the psychologist will:

  • Provide psychological assistance and PFA to those project beneficiaries reached by the mobile clinics;
  • Be responsible for identifying and taking in charge people affected by psychological vulnerability, trauma, PTSD or CPTSD (children, people with disabilities, veterans and their families, internally displaced people, elderly people, war-affected population in general);
  • Be responsible for managing feedback forms and data collection of the beneficiaries of the psychological activities, in particular the psychologist will be responsible for the collection of data through the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ) to assess the presence of PTSD or CPTSD;
  • Be responsible for updating the database of psychological activities on a daily basis;
  • Be responsible for collecting testimonies from beneficiaries and support the team in the drafting of activity reports, the mid-term as well as the final report, as directed by the project coordinator;
  • Participate in implementing research and needs assessment activities;
  • Assist the medical team in redirecting beneficiaries towards reception facilities, public health services and assistance services in the area;
  • Assist the project coordinator and the doctors in establishing direct and fruitful rapports as well as in building a network of health services assisting people in psychological distress;  
  • Participate in organizing and conducting training sessions for local staff on stress management and prevention of vicarious trauma;
  • Participate in organizing and conducting training sessions for doctors, psychologists, psychosocial operators and care professionals in general on psychological first aid and psychotraumatology;
  • Attend MHPSS TWG refresher courses and coordination meetings with territorial institutions and health-related services, such as the territorial psychological support network (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Technical Working Group, MHPSS TWG, OCHA cluster);
  • Participate in public meetings for the dissemination of project activities and project-related material and findings;
  • Advise the Field Activity Coordinator in the setting up of the activity calendar, in response to the needs encountered;
  • Participate in clinical team meetings and meetings scheduled to achieve the project objectives.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Psychology;
  • Specialization in Psychotherapy and/or Clinical Psychology and/or Psychotraumatology;
  • Minimum three years of post-graduate work experience;
  • Gained work experience in the field of psychosocial interventions;
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and English;
  • Adherence to humanitarian action principles;
  • Interest in humanitarian and human rights issues;
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team;
  • Capacity to adapt and thrive in stressful conditions; 
  • Proficiency in coordinating and organising activities; 
  • Possessing strong planning and contextual analysis skills;
  • Ability to thrive in multicultural contexts;

 OTHER DESIRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous work experience with non-profit organizations of the social/health/mental health sector;
  • Previous work experience related to forced migration and access to healthcare;
  • Proficiency in Google Sheets or Excel for managing the database of project beneficiaries;
