Position Summary

Momentum Wheels for Humanity (MWH) seeks a Communication Consultant responsible for advising on, developing, and disseminating project communications for MWH’s portfolio of international projects in Ukraine. This includes leading the development and implementation of a communications strategy at the country level; developing content and collateral for the dissemination and promotion of Momentum’s project activities and events in Ukraine; managing dissemination and promotion of developed content and collateral; and providing inputs for required project reporting and other related duties as needed.

Expected Duties and Responsibilities  

Reporting to MWH’s Ukraine Country Director, the Ukraine Communication Consultant will have the following responsibilities:

  • Communicate with key stakeholders in-country MOH, MSP, OPU, WHO, and other national and international donor-funded organizations to gather feedback on Momentum’s communications strategy.
  • Develop country-level communications and knowledge management strategy, tactics, and implementation plan in collaboration with the communications and knowledge management cross-consortium working group.
  • Manage the SRSHS project Facebook page and develop and manage other social media platforms for Ukraine-specific content as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to amplify project milestones, achievements, and success stories in coordination with MWH HQ staff and the Ukraine country team staff. 
  • Ensure that communications are in line with the donors’ branding strategies, marking plans, and country-level communications strategy and plan.
  • Advise on and implement internal knowledge management and communications strategies (platforms, methods, protocols) within the Ukraine country team and across MWH HQ. 
  • Compile or prepare inputs, including written pieces such as blog posts or articles, photographs, videos, and other communications materials, to support Momentum’s project activities in Ukraine. 
  • Support the development of project graphics, presentations, and other communications materials as requested for project activities and outreach. 
  • Attend activities and events in the L’viv area to photograph using the MWH camera, and to engage with project stakeholders and beneficiaries on other opportunities for content creation. 
  • Coordinate with a translator on the translation of content for press releases, one-pagers, blog posts, and/or other communications pieces as requested.
  • Provide support as needed to consolidate and format inputs for donor narrative reports and draft success stories for reports as needed.
  • Produce a brief monthly report that encompasses and highlights significant accomplishments of duties, important longstanding issues encountered, and proposed recommendations to ensure that all issues are flagged and addressed.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field. 
  • Strong background in communications, journalism, and donor relations
  • Ability to work under pressure and within limited time frames
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks by establishing priorities
  • Sound knowledge of the current policies and practices in the field of economic empowerment, and humanitarian action
  • Ability to work well independently and with a team
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills 
  • Detail-oriented with good organization and prioritization skills
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook, and knowledge management platforms such as DropBox or Box 
  • Written and spoken fluency in Ukrainian
  • Excellent written and spoken fluency in English 
  • Skills in photography, video editing, and social media 

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical experience in humanitarian communications is required
  • Experience in media and donor relations
  • At least 3 years of experience in communication and managing communications, responsibilities for projects, programs, or organizations.
  • Experience developing and accessing communications strategies, plans, and activities
  • Ability to write compelling stories for internal and external audiences
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in both English and Ukrainian for web and print platforms
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop preferred
  • Proficiency with the management of organizational/programmatic Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram accounts and analytics tools, including Hootsuite; experience with visual storytelling platforms desired.
