HEKS/EPER is looking Protection Officer MHPSS. Base in Kharkiv with field trips.

Job objective

The Protection Officer will provide the multi-sectoral emergency assistance for the most vulnerable conflict- affected people in Ukraine through individual and/or group meetings.  

Supervisory Responsibility of Job 

  • Supervising the day-to-day implementation of MHPSS activities in the assigned project locations.

    • Participate in the implementation of psychosocial support programs in the designated locations of the project.
    • Coordinate with Implementing partners in assigned project locations and follow up on the quality implementation of MHPSS project. 
    • Participate in supervising MHPSS activities implemented by local partners.
    • Submit timely project reports (monthly/weekly) including quantitative and qualitative data to the Protection Team Leader.
    • Agree to the publication of photos with the activity, without an additional form of consent for the use of photos by the Fund from each activity
    • Number and Level of Employees Supervised - according to the organizational chart

Tasks and duties:  

  • To ensure the development and implementation of MHPSS programs through the involvement of the Fund's employees, and partners, on the main MHPSS topics, such as psychological first aid, PSS at the community level, individual and group psychosocial support, PSS support during GBV case management, etc.
  •  Participate in the development of the budget for Protection programs and their implementation.
  • Conduct regular field and monitoring visits (in-person and/or remotely) to support and guarantee project intervention quality. 
  •  Prepare and facilitate technical trainings related to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and protection for staff and partners.
  • Coordinate with local, international organizations including local authorities, stakeholders, UN agencies, relevant working groups, and clusters.
  • Ensure the organization of data, storage of information/documents on the number of registered cases/appeals about psychological/physical violence, etc.
  • Support collecting all information related to project costs in the location.
  • Take part in developing methodologies and data collection techniques for assessments, indicators, program management, evaluations, and research related to Protection.
  • Responsible for the planning and implementation of Protection activities, closely monitoring, evaluating, and reporting their development and flagging potential issues on time.
  • Strengthen the referral system to community institutions for the care of victims of psychological/physical violence.
  • Perform other management orders as necessary.
  • Promotes and takes an active part in quality improvement processes.
  • Complies with labor discipline, labor protection and safety rules, fire-prevention requirements, industrial sanitation and labor hygiene rules, Safety, and Environmental regulations and guidelines.

Competencies & requirements

Language skills: Fluent in Ukrainian and Russian (speaking/reading/writing), Intermediate in English.

Education degree: Higher education  (in psychology, social work, sociology, bachelor's degree in nursing  )

Work experience: 

  • Minimum one year of relevant professional work experience in the development, planning, and management of MHPSS projects with practical experience in overseeing, monitoring, and reporting on project outcomes, as well as operational research. 

  • Experience in community mobilization and implementing principles. 

  • Experience in training relevant actors on Psychological First Aid. 

  • Experience in working in emergency program, including in Ukraine, is an added advantage. 

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience of mental health and psychosocial interventions in a humanitarian response context, tailored to care for Violence. 

  • Knowledge of the methodology of assessment, consultations and provision of psychological support to victims of violence 

  • Communication and facilitation skills, strong interpersonal skills. 

  • Knowledge of labor discipline, labor protection and safety rules, fire-prevention requirements, industrial sanitation and labor hygienerules. 

  • User of the MS Office, Internet.
