Support system administrator

OVERVIEW 

We are looking for a support system administrator to keep PostgreSQL/MSSQL the databases up and running smoothly 24/7 throughout the development and production lifecycles in Microsoft Azure Cloud Services. You will work as part of the AppOps team to manage, optimize, and secure our data systems. You will review and optimize PSQL code, monitor and troubleshoot our PostreSQL environment, and handle routine administrative tasks. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science
• 2+ years relevant experience in a similar role (DBA, Database Engineer, etc.)
• Experience with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, Oracle
• Implement best practices on PostgreSQL Databases and Servers
• Installation, Maintenance Configurations, Upgrades and Patches
• Ad hoc Index Maintenance
• Object Creation and Management
• User and Role Management
• Performance tuning
• Ensure that customers are have appropriate maintenance in place including backups, index maintenance, and routine vacuuming
• Able to troubleshoot problems with little or no assistance
• Providing configuration, monitoring and on-call support for development, test, and production environments
• Able to assist clients with PostgreSQL issues via screen sharing software on the spot
• Implement/Support Log Shipping
• Implement/Support Failover Solutions
• Implement/Support Replication
• Ability to export and import data from and to a PostgreSQL database
• Linux and Microsoft Windows servers experience required
• Must communicate effectively both verbally and written
• Must be able to demonstrate ability to troubleshoot technical issues
• On-call support and regularly scheduled off-hours production installations
• Willing to learn new skills that benefit the team and company when asked

• Optimizing loads of large volumes of data into a database
• Stored Procedure and Function Development
• Writing Foreign Data Wrappers
• Migrating from other Databases
• Linux/Unix Shell scripting and windows scripting
• Experience migration other platforms to PostgreSQL
• Experience with large corporate business environments
• Data modeling concepts, also data warehousing development and design a plus
• System administration skills a plus
• Technical support or call center support experience a plus
• Professional Consulting Experience a plus
• VPN/Network/RDC configuration and debugging skills a plus
• Understanding and knowledge of virtualization (Xen, VMware, KVM, Hyper-V).
• Network and server performance monitoring and analysis
