Staff Psychosocial Support Field Officer

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.
The ICRC is mandated to work in countries affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 80 countries and has some 19,000-field staff.
In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence in Ukraine. There are more than 600 ICRC staff working in Kyiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Odesa.
The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Staff Psychosocial Support Field Officer in Kyiv.
The Staff Psychosocial Support Field Officer (SPSSFO) contributes to the implementation of the Staff Health Strategy and, specifically, the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) strategy for staff within a delegation, in coherence with the MHPSS-for-staff component of the staff health strategy, in close supervision and guidance of Staff Psychosocial Support Delegate (SPSSD) and in close collaboration with the staff health team.
Functional general responsibilities:
- Contribute to strategies and interventions to increase staff mental health awareness, and self-care strategies, and to decrease stigma associated with psychological suffering.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of programs that increase mutual support and peer-support in the delegations of their influence.
- Contribute to the evaluation, monitoring, and reporting of the interventions with the aim of promoting ongoing learning and internal accountability.
- Identifying relevant and trusted external mental health service providers in all ICRC sites and developing a referral mechanism in accordance with the guidance of SPSSD so that staff can receive services without any hassles.
- Providing direct psychological support to staff who wish to have initial internal support.
- Providing support in case of need during the medical evacuation of staff in coordination with Staff Health Management (SHM) /SHO/Staff Health Advisor (PAC_OPS_SAN/GVA).
- Contribute to communication campaigns and strategies to decrease stigma and improve help-seeking behaviors
- Participate in the meeting of Duty of Care (DoC) working group, Crisis Management, and another relevant working group while SPSSD is absent.
- Reach out proactively to staff affected by a critical incident immediately after the incident and provide direct support to groups and individuals in remotely or in person as appropriate and needed
- Contribute to identifying and reinforcing mutual support options, in collaboration with the local staff support ecosystem
- Contribute to developing MHPSS well-being intervention plans to identify and reduce organizational psychosocial risk factors and enhance those that are protected in accordance with the guidance of SPSSD
- Contribute to the promotion of good managerial practices in accordance with the guidance of SPSSD
- In accordance with the guidance of SPSSD, plan all activities including field trips, and inform him/her about progress, achievements, difficulties, and challenges.
- Plan and organize regular visits (1-2 weeks/month) to all ICRC locations in Ukraine, where the ICRC has a structure/office to actively support the Staff health team and make short reports of the visit.
- Follow all ICRC standard procedures while planning and organizing field visits.
- Respect medical confidentiality, strictly.
- Regular clinical supervision of cases together with the SPSSD.
- Prepare periodic reports as required by KYI Staff Health Unit and PAC_OPS_SAN/GVA
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Master’s degree in Psychology. Valid license to practice in the country of residence. 3 to 5 years of overall professional experience with a minimum of 2 years experience in MHPSS programs
- Experience in conducting workshops, training, and clinical supervision.
- Clinic, psychosocial, and community-based experience Humanitarian experience is an asset.
- Fluent command of English as well as the main local language.
- Computer proficiency Experience in post-incident support
- Proven capacity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Red Cross/Red Crescent experiences an asset
