The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.

 The ICRC is mandated to work in countries affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 80 countries and has some 19,000-field staff.

 In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence to Ukraine. There are more than 600 ICRC staff working in Kyiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Odesa.

 The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Field Officer in its sub-delegation in Poltava.

Purpose:

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Field Officer implements Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities as defined in collaboration with the relevant coordinator at the local and national levels. S/he provides direct support to victims of armed conflict and/or other situations of violence and/or trains, supervises, and coaches others to do so.  

Functional general responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and follows up on MHPSS activities during emergencies at a local and national level.
  • Trains and supports URCS staff/volunteers and other organizations/partners/health care teams as per the program’s strategy.
  • Implements MHPSS activities directly through individual consultations or group support via outreach activities. 
  • Organizes referral of beneficiaries and performs case follow-up when needed. 
  • Complying with ICRC standards, sets up culturally and context-appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools, and ensuring regular data collection.
  • Develops and maintains contacts with URCS, health authorities, academics, technical advisers from other organizations, etc. as necessary.
  • Creates and maintains direct links with MHPSS programs beneficiaries.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • University degree in psychology, clinical psychology is preferable 
  • 3 to 5 years of overall professional experience with minimum 2 years’ experience in MHPSS programs.
  • Clinical, psychosocial and community-based experience 
  • Experience in conducting training and supervision.
  • Humanitarian experience, Red Cross/Red Crescent experience an asset.
  • Fluent command of written and spoken English, Ukrainian, and Russian
  • License to practice in his/her own country.
  • Computer proficiency
  • Proficiency in Public Health Approach and Continuum of Care, Professional Ethics and Principled Approach, Analytical thinking, Capacity building, Result-based management cycle, MHPSS Clinical and Therapeutical Expertise, Networking and Building Relationships, Emotional Intelligence
  • Skilled in the following competencies: Adapting & Learning, Communication (ability to express and exchange views and ideas), Analysis & Synthesis.
