WWF is the world’s largest conservation organization, founded in 1961. We’re active in over 100 countries and have over 7700 employees. WWF Central and Eastern Europe is responsible for leading and to a significant extent implementing WWF’s efforts to preserve, restore and sustainably manage the natural values of the Danube-Carpathian ecoregion, which we also call the Green Heart of Europe. With a team of 160 highly specialised professionals, we are working across political borders through an ecoregional approach based on model projects, influencing policy, networking, capacity building, communication and crisis response.

WWF-Ukraine is a member of WWF-CEE covering Ukraine, Moldova, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. We’re primarily engaged with forests, freshwater, wildlife as well as public policy, corporate engagement, marketing as well as finance and administration. To date, WWF-Ukraine has built a solid record on conservation restoration and sustainable management of natural resources with main focus on forests, freshwater, wildlife, public policy and engagement.

We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join the Conservation department as Project Coordinator. The jobholder will be responsible for planning, development and implementation of multidisciplinary strategic projects in Ukraine. S/he will provide strategic guidance, operational and administrative coordination and support relevant team members and project partners, liaise with senior WWF-CEE staff in order to ensure achievement of related high-level goals, project objectives and delivery of project deliverables. The Project Coordinator also will contribute to the implementation of WWF-Ukraine's conservation strategy in the framework of WWF-CEE's regional conservation strategy and the respective workplans.

The ideal candidate would have:

• scientific degree (PhD, Dr or Master’s) in the field of natural sciences (Biology, Ecology, Geography, Forestry, Hydrology etc.), natural resources management, sustainability or other related fields.
• solid knowledge of project and programme management, financial planning and budgeting, project fundraising and human resource management
• sound understanding of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development issues in Ukraine as well as of possible solutions
• at least 5 years of professional experience in the management of activities in the field of environmental studies and/or protection, natural resources management, nature based solutions and sustainability
• proven experience in managing at least a small team and preferably an office
• proven experience in budgeting and operational administration, as well as change management processes, project management, and working in an international context
• proven ability to manage interdisciplinary professional staff
• decision-making skills with a strong business acumen and drive for results
• diplomacy and cultural skills to work with a broad array of individuals from a variety of backgrounds
• excellent oral and written communications skills in both English and Ukrainian
• proven ability to fundraise and manage funds and projects
• ability to work well within the national and larger international WWF team, as well as independently
• sensitivity to different cultures and diversity
• alignment with the core values of the WWF organization: Courage, Collaboration, Respect and Integrity
• adherence to WWF’s mission, Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics.

The jobholder will be responsible for:

• coordinating project team, as well as the external project partners, in the process of operational implementation of defined project activities
• Developing, monitoring and ensuring implementation of project activities according to the work plan together with the project team and all external partners
• planning and aligning the work of all internal staff and external experts in order to ensure that deadlines are kept and timely reported to the donor and ensure that donor requirements are met
• liaising regularly with WWF-CEE`s Regional Operations Director and Conservation Director for quality management and strategic alignment
• preparing donor reports and bear responsibility for their quality
• ensuring effective liaison and maintain good communication with donors and other stakeholders
• supporting the thorough implementation of all respective activities defined in the work plan, complying with the set quantitative and qualitative standards
• planning and organising periodic team meetings or meetings with donor monitoring team, manage the process of collecting all necessary data and updates requested in this respect
• supporting the preparation of WWF-Ukraine's annual conservation workplan and the necessary related processes
• leading and supporting fundraising efforts in close cooperation with Country CEO
• fostering innovation and a standard of excellence and ensure the work processes are well resourced and completed in time
• providing input or take the lead in developing position papers/strategic documents on specific issues of conservation interest for WWF-CEE and/or WWF-Ukraine
• providing expert input to communication activities and outputs — e.g. campaigns, press releases, other materials
• representing projects and WWF-Ukraine externally and within the WWF network in close consultation with the CEO.
