Database Assistant (Junior Data Analyst)

IMPACT Initiatives is a leading Geneva-based think-and-do tank. Together with sister organization ACTED and UNOSAT, IMPACT launched in 2010 the REACH Initiative, which provides granular data, timely information and in-depth analysis from contexts of crisis, disaster and displacement to feed into evidence-based aid response and decision-making. Since 2016, the REACH initiative has been leading annual interagency humanitarian needs assessments to inform the Humanitarian Needs Overview and Response Plans in Ukraine. IMPACT - including through REACH - also provides continuous information management and geographic information systems support and capacity building to humanitarian agencies and clusters. IMPACT has been providing capacity reinforcement and technical support to local authorities in eastern Ukraine since 2016.

Under the supervision of the Database Officer, the Database Assistant is responsible for the processes and outputs related to data processing in the country. She/he will support data cleaning, data processing, data analysis, and data visualization activities in cooperation with team

FUNCTIONS

1. 1. Data processing/Data transformation activities

The IMPACT Database Assistant will be responsible for:

• Coding of IMPACT questionnaires and tools for data collection;
• Providing data analysis support to the IMPACT office including but not limited to data cleaning, data processing, data analysis and data visualization;
• Providing information management (IM) support to the IMPACT assessment team including questionnaire preparation and daily IM support during data collection and reporting process;
• Supporting the development of internal IM procedures and guidelines.

1. 2. Capacity building activities

The IMPACT Database Assistant will support or conduct trainings in elementary data analysis and data management for non-tech audience (capacity building).

1. 3. Internal Communication Processes

The IMPACT Database Assistant will work closely with IMPACT GIS/DB Manager, IMPACT Database officer and IMPACT GIS Officer in country to guarantee a quality of all IMPACT products.

1. 4. Confidentiality and Data Protection

The IMPACT Database Assistant will maintain the strictest confidentiality of data and processes. He/she will actively take measures to prevent the unauthorized sharing of information and data.

Qualifications

• Full working proficiency in English required;
• Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems, Social Sciences, or any relevant discipline;
• Essential minimum technical qualifications:

1. MS Excel: advanced usage of formulas, pivot tables, wide datasets;

• Desirable technical qualifications:

1. Previous experience with mobile data collection tools (ODK, KOBO, Ona) and understanding of questionnaire design workflow;
2. Familiarity with XLS-Form standard;
3. Data processing and analysis experience using R;

• 1-2 years of experience in data analysis, preferably in humanitarian context is an asset;
• Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to think creatively in terms of tool and process development and optimization;
• Flexibility and adaptability to ever-changing needs and responsibilities;
• Ability to work independently;
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
• Familiarity with the aid system and understanding of donor and governmental requirements is an asset.
