GIS/Database Assistant

Remuneration: USD 730 before taxation

Duty station: Mariupol

Assignment: Under the supervision of the REACH GIS Officer, the REACH GIS/Database Assistant is responsible for the processes and outputs related to spatial data processing and mapping in the country. She/he will support all field data collection and mapping activities with REACH team in country and in Geneva.

FUNCTIONS

GIS and data activities

The REACH GIS/Database Assistant will support overall GIS and database activities in Ukraine. In close coordination with the GIS Officer and Database Officer, the incumbent will support the development of databases, maps and web dashboards for REACH and its partners. It might be necessary to assist technically during trainings within capacity building program for local authorities and NGOs.

Field data collection support

The REACH GIS/Database Assistant will support the assessment team in the collection and management of spatial datasets, verification, cleaning, and updating of the collected data. He/she will monitor the accuracy of collected data.

Confidentiality and Data Protection

The REACH GIS/Database Assistant will maintain the strictest confidentiality of data and processes. He/she will actively take measures to prevent the unauthorized sharing of information and data.

Qualifications

• Full working proficiency in English required;
• Bachelor \ master degree or equivalent professional experience in GIS, Cartography, Geodesy, Geography, Computer Science, Information Systems, Social Science or any relevant discipline;

Essential minimum technical qualifications:

• Experience with ArcGIS Desktop or QGIS or ArcGIS Pro;
• Understanding of basic cartography concepts and data management procedures;
• Data processing and analysis experience using Excel / R / Python (pandas) / Tableau;

Desirable technical qualifications:

• Previous experience with mobile data collection tools (ODK, KOBO, Ona) and understanding of questionnaire design workflow is a strong asset;
• Experience with any web-mapping tools (ArcGIS Online, Mapbox, CARTO, Map Server, Leaflet, Open Layers) is a strong asset.
• 1-2 years of experience in GIS or information management field, preferably in humanitarian context is an asset;
  
• Presence of any relevant portfolio (GitHub account, web based-dashboard, OSM mapper profile, published maps) is a strong asset;
• Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
• Flexibility and adaptability to ever-changing needs and responsibilities;
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently;
• Experience in international team is an asset
• Aspiration to work in humanitarian field
• Ability to learn new concepts/build technical skills quickly
