PSS/Protection Coordinator

Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is currently looking for a PSS/Protection Coordinator to coordinate PSS/protection activities of PAH Mission to Ukraine.

 

General information:

  • Duration: 1 year (with a 3-month probation period)

About PAH:

Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is an international non-governmental organization which since 1992 has been providing humanitarian and development help worldwide. So far, the interventions have been carried out in 46 different countries. By possessing long-standing expertise in the implementation of projects in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Food Security and Livelihoods, as well as Nutrition and Education, PAH concentrates its global activities on ensuring sustainable and stable development of regions suffering from the consequences of armed conflicts, natural disasters and other humanitarian crises.

PAH has been present in Ukraine since August 2014 delivering humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable of the conflict-affected population. PAH provides assistance to internally displaced people, elderly and single mothers, working in the sectors of food security protection and livelihoods. PAH Ukraine is currently expanding programming from humanitarian to both early recovery and development-oriented interventions that provide sustainable livelihoods opportunities to the affected population.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the implementation of PSS/protection activities (incl. MHPSS, Child Protection, etc.) on the Mission, under the direct supervision of the Head of Programs Ukraine;
  • Liaise with the Mission's program and MEAL team members, and partner-organization and HQ programs team, to ensure timely and high-quality implementation of PSS/protection activities on the Mission;
  • Provide support to the Project Coordinators in implementation of all PSS/protection activities within the respective projects;
  • Provide support and strategic advice to the Head of Programs Ukraine in planning of protection programming in Ukraine;
  • Provide mentoring and technical support to PSS staff on protection, ensuring forms/tools, processes and procedures follow best practices and standards;
  • Design and conduct PSS/protection and capacity building training sessions for PSS staff, local partners and other stakeholders, when necessary;
  • Supervise two PSS Officers on the Mission;
  • Provide technical inputs to proposals;
  • Ensure quality contribution to reports submitted to donors or other stakeholders;
  • Design and implement case management and referral systems for PSS/protection activities;
  • Monitor impact of all PSS/protection activities implemented by PAH;
  • Develop and implement new tools for the collection of protection-related data concerning PSS/protection activities of PAH;
  • Incorporate learning from previous interventions (e.g. lessons learnt and best practices) into protection programming at the Mission;
  • Support needs assessments conducted by the Mission and participate in consolidation of needs assessment reports;
  • Draft contracts and Terms of References for PSS/protection staff;
  • Represent PAH at coordination meetings, ensuring proper dissemination of information among relevant partners, donors and relevant government institutions;
  • Undertake field monitoring visits to assess progress and identify technical quality issues and/or other implementation issues, provide solutions and implement modifications, if required;
  • Perform any other task upon the request of the Head of Programs Ukraine.

 

The successful PSS/Protection Coordinator will be selected based on the qualification requirements described below:

  • Diploma in social work, public health, human rights, psychology or other relevant fields;
  • At least 1 year of proven experience in the implementation of PSS/protection programming in emergency and stabilization contexts;
  • Thorough understanding of best practices and strategies in Protection (case management, psychosocial support, etc.);
  • Experience in organizing and conducting training sessions for protection and other project staff;
  • Experience in capacity building of local partners and providing support to local organizations;
  • Experience in developing project proposals to multiple humanitarian and/or development donors is an asset;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English (at least upper-intermediate level) and Russian/Ukrainian;
  • Strong computer skills (including very good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps);
  • Ability to analyze data and create meaningful analysis;
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and discretion with confidential information;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Previous supervisor's experience will be an asset;
  • Proven ability to handle challenging workload;
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
