WASH Officer - Dnipro

Job Summary

The primary function of the WASH Officer includes delivering the WASH (water, sanitation, hygiene and waste management) component during the current emergency response. IMC places the WASH capacity building at its heart, including working and training the national staff and direct beneficiaries. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Participate in initial joint health and WASH rapid assessment for integrated program implementation and ensure the WASH activities site selection is considering the international standards for WASH in collaboration with the WASH Manager and Coordinator; 
  • Supervise the delivery of WASH systems at the communities (Urban and Rural), shelters, schools in said context, including water (centralized and decentralized water systems, source selection, storage, treatment and distribution) and sanitation (sewage systems, latrines); 
  • Implement the solid waste systems, vector control and drainage that take full account of local conditions, resources, customs and cultural norms for COVID facilities; 
  • Facilitate the appropriate health facility-based health and hygiene promotion to staff, patients and caregivers;  
  • Identification of the most appropriate community mobilization messages on Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) health and hygiene in terms of the COVID offered to the target population;
  • Implement the most appropriate Infection Prevention and Control measures (disinfection of work surfaces, disinfection of WASH facilities, Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization), taking full account of local conditions, resources, customs and cultural norms;
  • Conduct monitoring and technical assistance to the community for maintenance and repairs of water and sanitation facilities in coordination with CHWs.
  • Enforce the implementation of the WASH response to be in line with the agreed Country strategy;  
  • Ensure SPHERE and WHO standards (both qualitative and quantitative) are considered through the program cycle and are well documented;
  • Provide regular updates and technical guidance to the team on progress, priorities and challenges – verbally and in writing. In addition, Work closely with the WASH team (Coordinator and Manager) for any required technical guidance and direction of the WASH interventions.
  • Any other WASH/IPC responsibility assigned.   

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in WASH or Civil Engineering or relevant technical WASH specialization; 
  • At least two years of work experience with designing and implementing WASH hardware (designing centralized and decentralized water and sewage systems) in Emergency contexts; or an equivalent combination of education and Experience;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the WASH sector and its hardware and software component;
  • Ability to effectively present information (both written and verbally) and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field, counterparts, senior government.
  • Ability to understand gender-related challenges within the beneficiary groups
  • Experience in emergency phases, including assessments and the design and delivery of effective hygiene promotion interventions in humanitarian and development contexts; 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of linking WASH activities with other humanitarian sectors;
  • Languages (Ukrainian, Russian and English) are required.
