Background:

International Medical Corps provides emergency relief to those struck by disaster no matter where they are, no matter what the conditions, working with them to recover, rebuild and gain the skills and tools required for self reliance.

 

International Medical Corps works to reduce the vulnerabilities of conflict-affected populations in eastern Ukraine and has currently one project supporting Mental Health and Child Protection from our Mariupol office. We are a team of 25 people in Mariupol and Kyiv (22 Ukrainian and 3 international staff).

IMC plans to expand and through this initiative will provide WASH in health facilities around Mariupol, mitigating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic with a hygiene education component, IPC and EH pillars.

International Medical Corps commits to a coordinated response and collaborates with the national health system and the humanitarian community.

 

Position: Public Health Officer - Hygiene Promotion

Salary: Competitive as Per Organization Scale

JOB PURPOSE:

The primary function of the Public Health Officer includes delivering the WASH (hygiene promotion) component at the COVID response. IMC places the WASH/IPC capacity building at its heart, this includes working and training the national staff and direct beneficiaries.

Under the direction of the PH Coordinator, the Hygiene Promotion Officer will lead hygiene promotion campaigns with COW as well as IPC trainings within health facilities.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate the appropriate health facility based health and hygiene promotion to staff, patients and caregivers;
  • Identification of the most appropriate community mobilization messages on Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) health and hygiene in terms of the COVID-19 offered to the target population;
  • Implement a hygiene promotion program that suits the local context and is widely accepted by beneficiaries;
  • Ensure SPHERE standards (both qualitative and quantitative) are considered through the program cycle and are well documented;
  • Work directly with CHWs for community outreach and prepare daily and weekly work-plan in consultation with the Public Health Coordinator;
  • Conduct monitoring and technical assistance to community for maintenance and repairs of water and sanitation facilities in coordination with CHWs.
  • Provide regular updates and technical guidance to team on progress, priorities and challenges - verbally and in writing. In addition, Work closely with WASH Specialist for any required technical guidance and direction of the WASH interventions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient/beneficiary data;

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree or relevant technical WASH specialization;
  • At least two years of work experience with designing and implementing community mobilization and hygiene promotion in IDPs contexts, implementing hygiene promotion programs; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of WASH sector and its software component;
  • Ability to effectively present information (both written and verbally) and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field, counterparts, senior government;
  • Ability to understand gender related challenges within the beneficiary groups;
  • Fluent in English.

Desirable:

  • Experience in emergency phases, including assessments and the design and delivery of effective hygiene promotion interventions in humanitarian and development contexts;
  • Working knowledge of Ukrainian/Russian language.
