DDG Programme Coordinator

ABOUT US

 

In 2014, Danish Refugee Council/Danish Demining Group (DRC/DDG) returned to Ukraine in order to assist those persons who are internally displaced (IDPs) or affected by the conflict in Donbas and implements activities in eastern Ukraine with a head office in Kyiv. DDG is the specialist unit within DRC that is dedicated to humanitarian mine action. DDG established mine action programmes in Ukraine in 2014 and has since been expanding the scale and scope of its intervention to include mine risk education, non-technical survey, manual demining and training/support for national actors. In terms of national actors, DDG has been working to support the State Emergency Services (SES) of Ukraine, in order to tackle the issue of explosive hazard contamination, via the provision of equipment and training.

 

ABOUT THE JOB

 

DDG is looking for an accomplished programme coordinator with solid experience in providing support to and oversight over a multi-project portfolio. In close cooperation with the DDG Head of Programme (HoP) the successful Programme Coordinator will work with project teams to ensure systematic and streamlined implementation processes are in place and that projects are delivered to the highest quality. In addition, the Programme Coordinator will conduct project monitoring and at all times maintain an overview of project progression against set targets and budgets. Solid planning and cooperation skills will be required.  The Programme Coordinator reports directly to the DDG Head of Programme. This position requires frequent travel to Slovyansk/Lysychansk, Mariupol, and Kyiv.

 

Main responsibilities

Programming & Operations

  • Contributes to the daily operation with comprehensive Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) specific knowledge
  • Carrying out and contribute to the design of HMA needs assessments
  • In close collaboration with the DDG HoP and Project Managers, ensure efficient and effective programme implementation while following, budgets, work plans, procurement plans and forecasting
  • Participation in identification and recruitment of suitable project team members
  • Management of budget lines as delegated by the DDG HoP Ukraine
  • Participate in preparing monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/reports and proposals and budgets for donors
  • Assist with formalization and development of project tools and training modules when required;

 

Coordination and representation

  • Collaborate with relevant internal and external technical experts on issues related to HMA
  • Close communication and liaison with project counterparts
  • Ensure coordination and planning of project activities
  • Representation of DRC-DDG and active participation in sectoral and relevant sub sectors/working groups;
  • Ensure integration of DDG activities with other DRC sectors where relevant
  • Support the DDG HoP with representation and donor liaison when required

 

Project Development

  • Provide technical guidance
  • Assist in developing project plans and budgets for funding
  • Assist in developing the projects' Monitoring & Evaluation tools
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports to relevant authorities as per need

 

Required experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of practical experience in sector area working for an INGO
  • Documented skills in project planning and design, drafting, calculation and technical writing
  • Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in project development
  • Experience working with national partners, local/government authorities, and UN organisations
  • Experience working within the sector of humanitarian mine action in Ukraine
  • Basic knowledge of landmines and explosive ordnance
  • Diplomatic, patient and persistent
  • Fluency in verbal and written English, Ukrainian and Russian

Required education

  • Relevant university degree (e.g. political science, international development or other relevant)
  • Successful completion of trainings on mine action topics
