GRADE: 3 

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The purpose of IYCF Officer is to ensure that the implementation of the IYCF activities within in line with international standards. The IYCF officer is responsible to ensure quality infant and young child feeding (IYCF) behavior change and (BCC) implementation with maximum coverage. The position holder will be key to support the integration of IYCF activities with other sector program.

Staff reporting to this post: IYCF-E Counsellor

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

· Ensure that the implementation of the IYCF programs is conformed to International guidelines.

· Provide support and supervision on IYCF activities to the staff implementing the IYCF activities in the areas of operation.

· Roll out regular training and provide technical support to the staff to promote consistent good practice.

· Facilitate integrated programming to promote communication and referral between the different sectors including MHPSS, CASH, Education and CP programming in collaboration with the mobile teams.

· Represent SCI in different coordination forum and liaise with other sectors

· Provide guidance to the team to mitigate risks associated with BMS donations /distributions including the advice on preventive and monitoring actions as well as reporting on BMS code violations.

· Ensure proper communication, coordination and harmonisation with the different stakeholders involved in Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies

· Undertake local and national level advocacy targeting other humanitarian actors, local authorities, ministries as appropriate, on assessment and appropriate response to support infant and young child feeding

· Support community based need assessments related to IYCF; identify gaps and bottlenecks on optimum IYCF uptake and assess the appropriateness and effectiveness of the current IYCF response

· Accomplish project site activities and supporting of community-based groups – mother support groups, etc.

· Conduct regular follow up site visits to provide support for quality implementation, and document field activities with submission of complete, accurate and timely feedback reports

· Prepare and submit weekly, monthly reports and ensure activities are on track.

· Document the important case studies and lessons learnt.

· Conduct performance appraisals for the team under your supervision.

· Participate in KAP surveys and other assessments as needed.

· Uphold the image and values of SCI at all times.

· Report any new developments, problems and challenges encountered in a timely manner to Nutrition unit.

· Perform other duties as assigned. The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

· Bachelors in nutrition/health related discipline and trained in nutrition programs with 2 years of relevant experience

· Demonstrable management/coordination experience

· Experience in implementing nutrition programs including monitoring and evaluation

· Experience in conducting need assessments

· Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff

· Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions

· Ability and willingness to frequently travel and stay at the field

· Commitment to and understanding of SCI aims, values and principles

· Demonstrable ability at report writing and excellent communication skills

· Good organization skills and multi-tasking ability

· Excellent computer skills of Microsoft package

· Strong public relation skills and good communication

· Positive attitude and collaboration toward other team colleagues

· Strong commitment toward achieving results

· Computer literate.
