The Video and photo journalist/editor will report to the Head of Press and Public Information Department/Senior Spokesperson in the development and implementation of press and public relations procedures of EUAM. As part of the Press and Public Information (PPI) Department, he/she will contribute to the efficient and effective running of the Press and Public Information tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Video and photo journalist/editor will be required, in accordance with the EUAM Mandate, Code of Conduct and the General Service Conditions for Locally Contracted Staff Employed by EUAM Ukraine, Serving in Ukraine, to perform the following tasks:

  • At frequent intervals, to produce short video stories on EUAM activities, outlining mission priorities, and in particular to identify relevant human-interest stories on civilian security sector topics;
  • Work together with PPID colleagues to identify opportunities for video story-telling, including EUAM activities and those of the EU special measure projects such as PRAVO;
  • Using the relevant video editing software, and against strict deadlines, edit video stories and also proactively suggest approaches;
  • Ensure that the EUAM YouTube account is updated and interesting;
  • Attend EUAM events to take photos on behalf of the Mission;
  • Manage the PPID photo catalogue and ensure Flicker and other photo library tools are updated and streamlined;
  • Design/edit photos together with the web, graphic and social media designer, using Photoshop and other photo design software programmes;
  • Draft Terms of Reference or Technical Specifications for the purchase of services or goods to fulfil the annual purchase plan of PPID;
  • Contribute to EUAM's programme of strategic communications activities for Ukrainian civilian security sector agencies, by suggesting training ideas and delivering trainings on journalistic/video production/photography topics;
  • Draft news stories on activities in English and Ukrainian, and provide translations of relevant news stories and other content in English/Ukrainian/Russian as required and at short notice;
  • Perform administrative and secretarial duties, draft e-mails, memos, letters and other requested documents as required, including to maintain filing systems;
  • Deal with information with confidentiality and discretion;
  • Otherwise assist with the daily running of Press and Public Information Department;
  • Perform any other task as requested by his/her Line Manager.

Qualifications and experience

Eligibility criteria:

  • Enjoy full civil rights and do not have criminal record;
  • Be in possession of Ukrainian citizenship and/or valid residence and work permits according to Ukrainian laws;
  • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed on him/her by the laws concerning military service;
  • Successful completion of a full course of university studies attested by a degree in Audio-visual/digital communications production, Journalism, Communications, International Information, Systems and Means of Mass Communication, Public/International Relations, Media Studies/Technology, Social/Political Sciences or a closely related field of study, where the normal duration of university education in the country awarded is three (3) years or more;
  • After having obtained the university degree, at least five (5) years of relevant and proven full-time professional experience in the private and/or public sector.

Essential criteria:

  • Be physically fit to perform the duties relating to the post;
  • Excellent communication skills of English, Ukrainian and Russian;
  • Very good knowledge and experience of Office Suite Package;
  • Excellent skills in audio-visual production (photo and video capture, video editing and photo treatment, publishing and archiving);
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant photo editing software and programmes such as Photoshop, Picasa, Flicker, etc;
  • Good understanding of the Ukrainian media/political landscape and of the civilian security sector.

Additional advantageous assets:

  • Professional experience in an EU and/or International environment;
  • Experience of working in an intercultural environment, with respect of diversity;
  • Experience in drafting Terms of Reference or Technical Specifications;
  • Experience in designing and delivering trainings;
  • Strong writing/editing/proofreading skills.
