The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.

The ICRC is mandated to work in countries affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 80 countries and has some 19,000-field staff.

In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence to Ukraine. There are more than 600 ICRC staff working in Kyiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Odesa.

The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Driver Light Vehicles/Водій легкових транспортних засобів in its sub-delegation/ delegation in Dnipro.

Purpose: 

Driver Light Vehicles /Mechanic transports people and goods in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with ICRC rules and regulations and national traffic laws and, apart of it assists to Car Dispatcher to carry out the repair and maintenance on ICRC vehicles and other logistics equipment in accordance with guidelines from headquarters and manufacturers’ recommendations.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Drives light vehicles to transport people and/or material in strict adherence to internal security rules and national traffic laws.
  • Ensures that goods are stored inside the vehicle according to local, international and ICRC safety standards (attachment and distribution of goods, etc.).
  • Checks their assigned vehicle(s)' equipment, general functioning and body condition and ensures that it is kept fuelled and clean inside and out.
  • Loads and unloads vehicles as necessary and ensures that the goods are loaded safely.
  • Controls attributed vehicle and avoid misuse
  • Ensures that the car is always refuelled before parking at the end of the trip 
  • Fills in Logbook, weekly report and Tachometer tape correctly with all relevant data for each trip
  • Hand over complete documentation to dispatcher at the end of the week.
  • Supervises daily/weekly/monthly vehicle checks (fuel, oil, water, breaks, lights, tyres…). 
  • Ensures that vehicles going to the field are ready for trip.
  • Supervises vehicle check before and after vehicle departs for the field trip.
  • Assists car dispatcher on daily duties if needed 
  • Supervises the check of weekly mileages to follow up for service schedule. 
  • Assists in the yearly workshop survey to determine best outsourced workshop in liaison with the Car Dispatcher to engage the supplier who offers the best price and quality if needed.
  • Draws up weekly and monthly service schedules for implementation
  • Carries out small/simple repairs/maintenance work on ICRC vehicles and generators according to ICRC guidelines.
  • In liaison with Car Dispatcher, control the repairs and maintenance of ICRC fleet, vehicles, and generators to ensure that service and repairs of ICRC vehicles and generators done properly with outsourced workshops. 
  • Checks vehicles and generators after repairs or service to ensure that all jobs have been done to expectation. (check the maintenance in out soused workshop area if possible). 
  • Helps Car Dispatcher to establish and maintain an accurate updated job-card based maintenance history for all fleet and other logistics assets repairs, update the FWC for maintenance as well the vehicle files. 

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ukrainian citizenship
  • Secondary school or technical/professional school diploma.
  • Intermediate knowledge of spoken and written English.
  • Good computer skills. (MS Office, Navigation Applications)
  • Driving license B for at least 5 years 
  • Driving license C, D1 (minibus) will be an asset
  • Good technical / mechanical knowledge
  • Experience in organizing and participation in vehicles’ repairs will be the strong asset
  • Good knowledge of the geographically assigned environment 
  • Masters 4/4 use
