The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of the population of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC is mandated to work in affected countries by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 95 countries and has some 19,000 field staff. In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence in Ukraine. There are more than 500 ICRC staff working in Kyiv, Sloviansk, Severodonetsk, Mariupol, Donetsk, Luhansk. In addition, the ICRC has scaled up its activities all across Ukraine since the start of the current crisis.

AIM OF THE POSITION

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Field Officer implements Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities as defined in collaboration with the relevant MHPSS HPM and MHPSS Program Responsible at local and national level. S/he provides direct support to victims of armed conflict and/or other situations of violence and/or trains, supervises others to do so.  

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops, implements and follows up on MHPSS activities during emergency and in armed conflict related settings at local and national level.
  • Trains and supports Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) staff/volunteers and other organizations/partners/teams as per the program's strategy.
  • Implements MHPSS activities directly through individual consultations or group support activities via outreach activities.
  • Organizes referrals of beneficiaries and performs case follow-up when needed.
  • Complying with ICRC standards, sets up culturally and context-appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools and ensures regular data collection during emergency.
  • Develops and maintains contacts with URCS, health authorities, academics, technical advisers from other organizations, etc. as necessary.
  • Creates and maintains direct links with MHPSS programs beneficiaries.
  • Maintains regular communication with the Mental Health & psychological team and/or Mental Health and Psychosocial support Health Program Manager, providing data and programs updates. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and professional qualifications

  • University degree in psychology, clinical psychology is preferable 
  • 3 to 5 years of overall professional experience with minimum 2 years' experience in MHPSS programs.
  • Experience in conducting training and supervision.
  • Red Cross/Red Crescent experience an asset.
  • Clinical, psychosocial and community-based experience 
  • Humanitarian experience an asset.
  • Fluent command of English, Ukrainian and Russian.
  • License to practice in his/her own country.
  • computer proficiency
