In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence to Ukraine. There are more than 500 ICRC staff working in Kyiv, Sloviansk, Severodonetsk, Mariupol, Donetsk, Luhansk and Odesa.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is announcing opening for:

 

 

WATER AND HABITAT ENGINEER

Based in Kyiv

 

 

  • The position will be part of the ICRC water and habitat department in the Delegation (office) of the ICRC in Kyiv. The position will support construction and rehabilitation projects on public buildings (schools, health facilities) and private housing damaged by the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.
  • The position will design and manage ICRC Ukraine construction projects in places of detention projects in Ukraine in central and eastern Ukraine
  • The position will work independently to develop designs and bills of quantities for building construction projects under the direction of water and habitat coordinator and the deputy water and habitat coordinator supporting the building rehabilitation and construction work of the field engineers. The position will work with ICRC water and habitat staff and external architects/ quantity surveyors to develop designs and bill of quantities for civil engineering and construction projects. The position will assist water and habitat field teams on the implementation on these projects.
  • The position will manage independently a barricade construction project to improve the safety of an ammunition storage facility in Moldova working under the direction of the water and habitat coordinator and with other concerned ICRC department and the Ministry of Defence.
  • The position will require both work in Kiev and travel to Sloviansk/ Severodonetsk, Mariupol, Donetsk and Lugansk and to places of Detention across Ukraine and to Moldova on a regular basis.
  • The role of Water and Habitat Department in ICRC is to assess the needs of the victims of armed conflict with respect to water supply, education, health, and shelter facilities. The department plans engineering and construction projects to solve the problems encountered, working with authorities and firms regarding project planning and design, and works on the implementation of the projects and handles all aspects of the management of these projects.
  • Water and habitat staff provide support in all engineering aspects and have expertise in urban water supplies, building construction, hydraulic engineering, and civil engineering.

Minimum required knowledge and experience

 

  • University degree in architecture, civil or structural engineering or similar.
  • Excellent command (spoken and written) of Ukrainian/ Russian language.
  • Good knowledge (spoken and written) of English.
  • Proficient in design of buildings and use of drawing software (AutoCAD) and preparation of Ukrainian Bills of Quantity (Smeta) including Smeta software
  • At least 6 years' work professional experience in building design and construction
  • Advanced knowledge of construction engineering in Ukraine
  • Good computer literacy (Excel/ Word)
  • Good decision making, planning, organisational, negotiating, and analytical skills
  • Qualified and registered engineer
