In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence in Ukraine. There are more than 300 ICRC staff working in Kyiv, Sloviansk, Severodonetsk, Mariupol, Donetsk, Luhansk and Odesa.

Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Field Officer

Based in KYIV

 

 

AIM OF THE POSITION

The Mental Health and Psycho-social Support Field Officer will help implementing and developing the activities related to Mental Health and Psycho-social support. (S)He will establish and maintain contacts with local structures, colleagues and other interlocutors as agreed with the Mental Health and Psycho-social Support Delegate. (S)He will keep an eye on the evolution of the situation and possible MHPSS needs under the supervision of the MHPSS delegate in accordance with the structure's objectives.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Implement MHPSS activities in the central and western regions of Ukraine in line with the defined action plan and in collaboration with the MHPSS delegate.
  • Provide direct Mental health and Psychosocial support to Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) volunteers involved in the assistance to the families of the missing via group sessions involving psychoeducation and stress management (in line with protocol and MHPSS guidelines).
  • Provide individual sessions if required.
  • Capacity building of URCS volunteers and other actors (NGOs, Health Staff, Family Associations etc.) involved in the assistance to the families of the missing as per Accompaniment Program framework.
  • Provide direct assistance to the families of the missing persons when required as per Accompaniment Program framework.
  • Organize seminars/workshops and related activities to mental health professionals involved in the assistance to the families of the missing.
  • Follow-up of the above mentioned activities.
  • Maintain regular contact with other stakeholders involved in MHPSS activities (networking) and make appropriate referrals to those services if necessary.
  • Work in close contact with other ICRC Departments (Health, Protection, EcoSec) to provide a coordinated and integrated response to the needs.
  • Assess continuously the evolution of the situation and possible MHPSS needs (affected areas, vulnerable categories...).
  • Compile work reports as required in English.
  • Translate documents and verbal exchanges during internal or external meetings when necessary (Russian/Ukrainian to English and vice versa).

 

The tasks and responsibilities defined above are not exhaustive and can evolve depending on organizational needs.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and professional qualifications

  • Higher Education in clinical psychology (Diploma)
  • 4 years' work experience (preferably in a similar field of activity)
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Good knowledge about evaluation methods
  • Very good computer literacy
  • Good rigor, method and analytical skills
  • Group facilitation, communication, training and supervision skills.
  • Management skills
  • Good knowledge of the political, social and cultural assigned environment
  • Capacity to adhere to and to implement procedures
