Telephonist (Hotline, part-time)

    The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.

     

     

    The ICRC is mandated to work in countries affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 80 countries and has some 13,000 field staff.

     

     

    In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence to Ukraine. There are more than 300 ICRC staff working in Kyiv, Sloviansk, Severodonetsk, Mariupol, Donetsk, Luhansk and Odesa.

    TELEPHONIST (Hotline, part-time 50%)

     

    Mariupol based

     

     

    AIM OF THE POSITION

     

    The Telephonist supports the SD in data management and beneficiary communication. She/he acts as a support to the SD's Assistance and Protection departments in transmitting accurate feedback to beneficiary enquiries.

     

     

    The Telephonist is a 50% position and is expected to have a good working knowledge of all ICRC activities so that they can accurately provide information to callers. Accordingly, the Telephone Operator interacts with all ICRC departments to be up-to-date on activities and procedures.

     

     

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Focal point for community communication;
    • Operates the telephone switchboard: handles all type of incoming and outgoing phone calls;
    • Manages the hotline from 09.00 to 13.00. Dedicates time to reporting, and other tasks related to the calls received;
    • Fills the phone calls database;
    • Takes note and transmit simple messages;
    • She/ he undertakes basic analysis of beneficiary enquiries, prepares narrative and statistical reports;
    • Interprets accurately from English to National language and vice versa as required;
    • Ensures necessary administrative work is implemented on time;
    • Telephone Operator performs secretarial duties independently with relation to filing, documentation and simple non-institutional reporting (record of hotline calls and nature of queries).

     

    The tasks and responsibilities defined above are not exhaustive and can evolve depending on organizational needs.

     

     

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

     

    Education and professional qualifications

     

    • Secondary school level or a technical school;
    • 2 years' work experience in similar field of activity;
    • Good command of spoken and written English and local languages;
    • Good computer knowledge;
    • Rigorous and methodical person;
    • Capacity to adhere to ICRC procedures;
    • Good communication skills;
    • Capacity to deal with public;
    • Capacity to use office equipment (PC, switchboard, radio, etc.).

     

     

    Preferable qualifications

     

    • Experience of work in multinational/ multicultural environment;
    • Good interpretation skills between English/Russian/Ukrainian.

    • Genuine interest to work in humanitarian aid field;
    • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and take initiative;
    • Ability to work under minor supervision;
    • Assertiveness and enthusiasm;
    • Strong sense of responsibility;
