Mediator

Medici per i Diritti Umani – MEDU (Doctors for Human Rights – Italy) is a democratic and non-profit organization independent of political, trade union, religious and ethnic affiliations. Medici per i Diritti Umani was founded by a group of doctors, mid-wives and others volunteers involved in a humanitarian mission with in Chernivtsi, Ukraine.

MEDU was founded on 2004 in Rome with the purpose to bring health to vulnerable population and denounce the violations of human rights and, in particular, on the exclusion from the right to health.

Role: MEDIATOR

Place of work: Chernivtsi Oblast

Conditions: Part-time job (on Mondays and Fridays, Feb-March 2023)

Salary: Will be defined on the basis of the candidate's experience - up to 600 EUR

Starting date: February 2023

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES

Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and the Medical Coordinator 

• Participates in the role of cultural mediator in the activities of the first medical and psychological aid to the beneficiaries of the project
• Assist the project coordinator and the medical coordinator in the collection of data and testimonies
• Co-operates with the field team in establishing interaction and networking methods with the health personnel and operators of the other associations present
• Participates in the elaboration and translation of the informative materials
• Contributes to the preparation of activity reports and the final report
• Participates in the team coordination meetings

REQUIREMENTS

• Native language: Ukrainian
• Other languages: English, Italian
• Training in cultural and linguistic mediation
• Adherence to the principles of humanitarian action
• Interest in humanitarian and human rights issues
• Initiative and flexibility
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Ability to adapt and work in stressful conditions
• Ability to coordinate and organize activities
• Planning and contextual analysis skills
• Ability to work in a multicultural context 

OTHER DESIRED REQUIREMENTS 

• Minimum 2 years work experience as a cultural mediator
• Field work experience in Italy or other EU counties in health or psycho-social interventions with migrants/refugees
