Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Ukraine is seeking a qualified staff member for the project "Municipal Partnerships with Ukraine" to fill the position of a

 

Project coordinator (full time, Kyiv)

 

Die Servicestelle Kommunen in der Einen Welt (SKEW) of Engagement Global GmbH (EG) acts on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supports German-Ukrainian municipal relations by offering them opportunities for professional exchange, qualification and networking as well as personnel and financial support tools.

The goal of the project "Municipal Partnerships with Ukraine - Phase II" is to establish new partnerships between German and Ukrainian municipalities and to contribute to the further development of existing partnership ties. Along with this, engagement in development policy and municipal know-how in the German and Ukrainian municipalities shall be strengthened through sustainable partnership efforts. At the same time, the existing German-Ukrainian network shall be enhanced and expanded. The focus is set on the promotion of a constructive and peer-to-peer cooperation between the partner municipalities. As a result of five years of the project activities (2015-2020), the network of partnership between German and Ukrainian municipalities has increased by approx. 80% from 39 to 70 partnerships. Presently, the network covers 131 municipalities, including 68 from Germany and 63 from Ukraine.

To be able to use the results of the German-Ukrainian municipal cooperation with a broad impact, the SKEW project "Municipal Partnerships with Ukraine" cooperates closely with other actors of development cooperation in Ukraine.

To reach the project goals, the GIZ has been commissioned for the above period to support the project "Municipal Partnerships with Ukraine - Phase II" through a local coordination point (100%).

 

Area of responsibilities

 

The contribution for the project "Municipal Partnerships with Ukraine - Phase II" of SKEW / Engagement Global include as follows:

 

As agreed and coordinated with the project management of "Municipal Partnerships with Ukraine - Phase II" (SKEW / Engagement Global):

  • Representation and presentation of the project "Municipal Partnerships with Ukraine - Phase II" of SKEW / Engagement Global in Ukraine;
  •  Support of the project management in conceptualizing, implementing and assessing project activities;
  •  Organizational steering, preparation and hosting of national and international professional events, workshops and conferences;
  •  In cooperation with the regional coordinators (KAS) of the project: organization and moderation of thematic workshops and seminars;
  •  Budget planning and monitoring as part of the agency agreement between SKEW/EG and the GIZ;
  •  Organization of translation services by third parties;
  •  Coordination with GIZ projects and other actors of German development cooperation in Ukraine to ensure a smooth project progress;
  •  Support in coordination for deepened cooperation in selected topic fields of the German development cooperation in Ukraine and the German-Ukrainian Municipal SKEW Network;
  •  Support in organizing additional events/measures agreed as part of the deepened cooperation between the actors of development cooperation, partner municipalities and SKEW;
  •  Project-related information activities (organisational and editorial follow-up of publications);
  •  Other tasks in coordination with the SKEW/EG project management.

 

Provision of office infrastructure, if required:

  •  Furniture, IT etc.
  •  Consumer goods
  •  Proper processing of travel expenses

 

Financial processing of events, seminars, conferences, exchange meetings under the project "Municipal Partnerships with Ukraine - Phase II":

  •  Hotel bookings / travel expenses / interpreter and translation / equipment etc.
  •  Event management
  •  Preparation of invoices for processing and payments via the country office: Confirmation of services; Translation of the key points; Proper transfer of required documents.
  •  Administrative functions in the project office like paperwork flow in line with OuR and inventory check using the GIZ software "OnsiteAsset".

 

The responsible employee is disciplinarily subordinate to the country office for administrative reasons. The SKEW/EG project management is responsible for the professional guidance of the employee.

 

Required qualifications and experience

  • University degree in administrative, management, economic, political studies or in related field
  • At least 3 years' professional experience in a comparable position in an international organization, NGO or think-tank
  • Native written and spoken Ukrainian, very good knowledge of German or English (preference will be given to candidates with strong verbal and written skills in German)
  • Experience in liaising with stakeholders such as government officials, private actors, civil society
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Good knowledge and orientation in municipal structure of Ukraine and public administration
  • Willingness to travel (within Ukraine and abroad) regularly
  • An independent and result-oriented approach, flexibility, self-organization and ability to withstand stress as well as intercultural competencies
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)

  • Excellent communication, writing, presentation and organizational skills
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently
  • High degree of discretion, integrity and sense of tone
  • Willingness to travel frequently within Ukraine and abroad

 

Employment conditions

Full-time position with 40-hours working week. The contract duration is until the end of 2021. Prolongation possible.
