Ukraine Interpreter-Translator

Position Summary

Momentum Wheels for Humanity seeks an Interpreter-Translator to provide interpretation/translation expertise to emergency response programs in Ukraine designed to strengthen capacity for the provision of rehabilitation services relevant to the current conflict. Under the direction of the Ukraine Emergency Response Coordinator, the Interpreter-Translator is responsible for extending interpretation/translation services to Momentum’s emergency response programming, building on ongoing country programs and accomplishments.

Expected Duties and Responsibilities  

The Interpreter-Translator provides support to the Momentum team by performing the project’s written translations in a timely manner, and consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation. The Interpreter-Translator will be responsible for performing the following primary tasks:

Interpretation Tasks 

• Provide simultaneous and/or consecutive interpretation from Ukrainian to English and English to Ukrainian as needed during online and offline meetings, workshops, conferences and other events

Translation Tasks 

• Translate project-related documentation (operational manuals and guidelines, training materials, training reports, receipts, curricula, outreach materials) as needed
• Translate outgoing documents prepared by the Momentum team into Ukrainian or English; translate incoming letters and other relevant documents into Ukrainian or English
• Translate meeting agendas, and minutes of meetings as necessary; proofread, edit, and revise translated materials

Other Tasks

• Travel with project staff to the field for interpretation and other assistance as needed
• Support the Momentum team in organizing meetings/conferences (translating programs, invitation letters, participant lists; etc.)
• Keep abreast of new relevant professional terminology; update and expand Momentum’s terminology list (in English and Ukrainian) to facilitate interpretation/translation efforts
• Organise workload ensuring adequate time management and prioritization
• Perform other duties as required
• Take the lead in liaison and co-ordination efforts with any additional interpreters/translators hired on a freelance basis for Momentum-supported events

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, including linguistics, translation, or a related field
• At least two years of professional experience providing interpretation support in a team environment on international technical assistance projects 
• Detail-oriented with good coordination, organization, and prioritization skills
• Demonstrate resourcefulness and initiative
• Excellent computer skills with practical experience using Microsoft, Outlook, DropBox, and other computer applications
• Fluency in Ukrainian, Russian, and English
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Eligibility to work in Ukraine is required. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior work experience with an international technical assistance implementer in Ukraine
• Understanding of national health systems for rehabilitation services and knowledge of Ukrainian health systems
• Interpretation experience in rehabilitation or medical environment is highly desired
