R&D Manager (from July)


Roles and Responsibilities

General

  • Manage Engineering teams to deliver the releases
  • Work with Support on escalations and customer issues
  • Support Professional Services engagements for the deployments

Management

  • Day to day resourcing and scheduling
  • Build the team of software developers and QA engineers, take an active part in the recruitment process, conduct interviews and candidates' assessment procedures
  • Ensure that projects are delivered on time
  • Prepareproject statusreports toCross Functional team and Executive Management
  • Regular 1-on-1 meetings with subordinates to monitor, update and set objectives and raise, answer any issues from both parties
  • Management of sickness forms and holidays for reports
  • Performance Reviews - managing process and directing team to produce, financial planning for salaries, raises and bonuses
  • Resolve disciplinary issues as appropriate for team members
  • Assessing the training needs of reports and the implementation of that training

Projects

  • Lead projects by example, ensuring your reports are equipped to deal with all development and quality elements and components to achieve profitability and high quality on all projects. This includes taking whatever steps required to ensure that project deadlines are met
  • Keep Engineering Management informed regarding any issues that may compromise schedules or quality
  • Work from project plans and requirements whilst also offering ideas for improving the original specification
  • Understand, implement and question client instructions where necessary
  • Ensure that reports follow relevant procedures and checklists
  • Ensure that all quality expectations are fully met
  • Responsible for project sign-off

Department Development

  • Contribute to the evolution and development of the Engineering strategy
  • Execute department objectives
  • Offer suggestions to enhance production and quality procedures
  • Contribute to roadmap development, execution and planning

Other Duties

  • Provide training to other staff members within Engineering Department and in other Departments when necessary
  • Perform any other duties required at the discretion of the Engineering Vice President

Skills, Experience and Personality

The R&D Manager needs to have an exceptional knowledge of the software development process, various tools, platforms and approaches. He or she should have good understanding of Product Management, QA, release and support processes. Strong inter-personal communication, presentation abilities and excellent problem solving skills are mandatory. The position also requires understanding of the Agile approach to the software development. Exposure to fast moving technology, with the ability to learn new skills and apply them within a short period of time is highly desirable. The position requires fluent English.
